A Magical History Tour of Texas Photographers explores the state’s rich early photography history through rare images and historical insight. The program examines the rise of photography in Texas, where at least 118 photographers were active by 1840 and permanent studios became common by 1860. Special attention is given to the Civil War era, when studio portraits flourished as soldiers commissioned photographs to commemorate their service and provide keepsakes for loved ones.

The presentation will feature rare Civil War–era Texas photographs, including a notable 1860s album, shared by collector Dean Sprowl. The program will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2026, beginning at 6 pm at Patrick Heath Public Library in Boerne.
