There’s something you should know about The Boerne Life. We’re dog people.
And conveniently, Boerne is a pretty dog-friendly town. Whether you’re a Boerne local with a four-legged family member or just visiting with your pup, there are plenty of places in and around the city that roll out the welcome mat (and the water bowl) for dogs.
From patios and parks to pup cups and frozen deer bones, here’s your ultimate guide to dog-friendly Boerne.
Presented by Joshua Creek Ranch

At Joshua Creek Ranch, the dogs are as much a part of the experience as the hunt itself. Their professionally trained pointers, flushers, and retrievers — including English Setters, Brittanies, Springers, and energetic English Cockers — are world-class in the field.
The ranch also welcomes guest dogs for boarding during your stay and even offers a special training program, and occasionally has puppies and retired dogs available to good homes.
Plan your next hunt, Fun Shoot, or Hill Country stay at Joshua Creek Ranch, where the dogs work along side you and the views stretch for miles.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants, Breweries & Coffee Shops

There’s no shortage of places around Boerne that welcome your dog with open arms — and sometimes a biscuit or a Pup Cup. Whether you’re craving a beer, wings, or your morning latte, here are a few spots that let your pup come along for the ride.
The Richter
Dogs are allowed on the patio, but also inside in the main corridor, where there’s A/C and plenty of seating. A great indoor option on a hot day. 153 S Main St.
Free Roam Brewing
Dogs are welcome both inside and out at this local brewery. Since they don’t serve food indoors, pups are allowed to chill right at the bar — no joke, we once saw a lab perched on a bar stool.
They also hold dog adoptions on a regular basis for local rescue organization, A Doggie 4 You. Incidentally, that’s where we adopted both dogs you see see featured in this guide!
Coffee Shops with Pup Treats
Lots of local coffee shops offer doggie perks. At Brevity Coffee Co., your dog can get a 25¢ Pup Cup with whipped cream and a treat on top. They also allow dogs inside their lobby.

Restaurants with Dog-Friendly Patios
Most Boerne restaurants have patios where dogs are welcome, but Sauced Wing Bar gets extra credit — it’s often mentioned as having one of the most dog-friendly patios in town.
Pet-Friendly Shops

Some local shops are extra inviting to your dogs. Here are a few you’ll want to visit.
Nature’s Presence
This wellness shop carries natural pet products and welcomes dogs. In fact, if you forgot your leash, they have some right by the front door. Located at 807 N Main St., they offer a wide selection of natural pet care products for cats and dogs, including CBD-based calming aids, pet first aid supplies, DE for natural flea protection, and more. Taylor’s Ace Hardware and Home Depot
Both hardware stores allow dogs inside. Handy errands and tail wags go great together.
Bookshop Under the Windmill
Not only are dogs allowed inside, the friendly volunteers will often give your pooch a treat. Located next to the library at 451 N Main St, Building 200.
Trails & Walks for You and Your Pup

If you want to take your dog for a walk, there are some great spots. You can just walk up and down Main Street (that’s fun in and of itself), but here are some others we enjoy.
Cibolo Nature Center
Shaded trails, creeks, and beautiful surroundings — leashed dogs love this place just as much as their humans do.
Old Number 9 Trail
Flat and paved with some shaded spots, this is a convenient trail for dog walks. There are pet waste stations and a dog-level water fountain where Blanco intersects with the trail.
River Road Park Walk
A scenic stroll along the river, ideal for leashed pups and relaxed humans. And there’s plenty of shade here too. Just watch out for all the ducks and geese!
Main Plaza
We walk around the Plaza with our dogs all the time. It features a water fountain with a low dog attachment. You’ll also often find water bowls set out at nearby businesses like Bear Moon, Cibolo Brewing, and the Boerne Visitor Center.
Off-Leash Dog Parks
Joshua Springs Dog Park
Located just past the edge of Boerne in Comfort, this is the closest true off-leash dog park. It features a two-acre setup, with separate areas for small and large dogs. More Info
Coming Soon: Northside Community Park
We’re finally getting a dog park within Boerne city limits! It’s part of the upcoming Northside Community Park renovations, with construction just getting underway in 2025. The new dog park will be worth the wait.
Dog-Friendly Events & Markets
Especially as fall nears, there are some great markets that are pet-friendly.
Barktoberfest
Held at Main Plaza each fall, this is the ultimate dog-lover’s fall festival. Hosted by Hill Country Animal League, it features:
- Pet adoptions
- Dog costume contest
- Doggy dash races
- Face painting, petting zoo, and more
- There’s also local craft beer, food trucks, and plenty of vendors. More info.
Farmers Market at Herff Farm
Shaded and social — a perfect Saturday morning outing for dogs and their humans.
Boerne Market Days
Another good option, though we recommend going early if it’s warm out.
Tuesday Farmers Market
Held in the summer with little shade, so best for cooler months only.
Grooming, Health & Pet Services

Whether your pet needs a groomer or low cost vaccinations, here are a few good options.
Traveling Tails Mobile Pet Spa
We use them for both our dogs. They’ll come to your house, and they’re fantastic. Mention The Boerne Life for $10 off your first groom.

Here are two hidden gems we’ve fallen across for dog bones.

Klein Smokehaus
They sell frozen deer bones — a popular treat that’s both natural and long-lasting.
