58 Things to Do in Boerne, TX

There are a lot of things to do in Boerne. And there are plenty of lists online telling you about them. But as someone who lives here, I wanted to give you a heads up on what you really want to know – that includes some of the “greatest hits” as well as some things you won’t find on the influencers lists.

Featured Sponsor: Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club

If you’re making a list of the best things to do in and around Boerne, here’s one to put right at the top: schedule a tour of Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club.

We recently spent the day exploring the private club, and from the Hill Country views at the driving range to families lounging poolside and kids flying down the water slide, it was clearβ€”this place is something special.

The newly resurfaced tennis courts and brand-new pickleball courts were full of energy, and the just-opened golf pro shop is looking sharp. Even with multi-million dollar renovations still underway on the restaurant, fitness center, and Live Oak Golf Course, the transformation is already impressive.

Whether you’re into golf, racquet sports, or just want a resort-style community to relax with friends and family, this is a must-see. Schedule a private tour and see why Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club might just be the best way to live The Boerne Life.

Savor the Flavors of Boerne

For such a small town, there’s a ton of good food and drink in Boerne. Here are some of my favorites you don’t want to miss.

  1. Kickstart your morning with a breakfast taco at Mary’s Tacos. And while they’re known for their breakfast tacos, don’t sleep on their chips and salsa. They’re the best tortilla chips I’ve ever had, and an order is only a few bucks. In fact, the entire place is budget-friendly. Consider ordering online to skip the line.
  2. Savor a fried chicken sandwich paired with a Boerne Blonde at Cibolo Creek Brewing, the perfect combination of flavors. And if you’re looking for the best deal on the menu, go with the bier buns. Delicious comfort food, and you get a lot for your money.
  3. Try one of 23 house-brewed beers at 28 Songs Brewhouse + Kitchen, which has the largest assortment of in-house beers in town.
  4. Indulge in a giant cinnamon roll at Richter Bakhaus, a treat that promises to be as delightful as it is sizeable. Yes, it’s the one you’ve seen going viral all over Instagram. But also, I’d argue they have the best chocolate chip cookie in town.
  5. Enjoy a craft beer by the old well table at Free Roam Brewing. The table is a cool little find, and they have some great beer. Trivia night on Tuesday, too.
  6. Listen to live music with a beer in hand at Dodging Duck, Boerne’s original brewpub. They have one of the best patios in Boerne, overlooking the Cibolo Creek.
  7. Cool off with an ice cream sandwich at Blithe Creamery, a must-do for sweet lovers. Handmade ice cream smashed between two cookies. You probably will want to share it.
  8. Treat yourself to a cheesy pig and a pastry at Bear Moon Bakery for a sweet and savory start to your day. If you like flaky pastries, this is your place.
  9. Try the Thai Wings or Curry at N’s Thai for a taste of international cuisine.
  10. Delight in a pupusa at Casa Amaya Pupuseria & Taqueria, a Salvadoran restaurant.
  11. Get a bubble waffle or another Mexican snack at Michoacan A Pedir de Boca off Water Street.
  12. Go back to the future at Darkside Pizza, one of the newer restaurants in town, with incredible 80’s themed memorabilia and amazing brick oven pizza.

Embrace Boerne’s Natural Beauty

Joshua Springs

There’s a lot to see and do outside – after all, Boerne is basically at the doorway to the Texas Hill Country. Here are some things we really enjoy.

  1. Explore underground wonders at Cascade Caverns or Cave Without a Name for an adventurous day. And if you time it right, you can see a live concert in Cave Without a Name.
  2. Paddleboard on Boerne City Lake, embracing the tranquility of the water. No need to bring your own – you can rent them there.
  3. Hike through the Cibolo Nature Center, discovering the diverse landscapes of Texas. Don’t miss the dinosaur tracks. There are adult night hikes and family night hikes some Friday nights.
  4. Experience horseback riding at Diamond C Stables and Ranch, a journey through scenic trails. You can learn about their trail rides here.
  5. Visit the Farmers Market at the Cibolo and Herff Farm for fresh local produce and kids games. During the spring, there are baby chicks and ducklings at the hatchery. You can also attend the Boerne Farmers Market on Tuesdays at old City Hall.
  6. Stroll along the creek at River Road Park, enjoying the peaceful surroundings. You can also fish off the piers (when there’s enough water). Also worth noting, it’s legal to walk around with alcohol in Boerne, so you can get a beer to-go at Dodging Duck across the street, and then sip while you stroll.
  7. Fish, hike, and camp out at Guadalupe River State Park. Enjoy 4 miles of river frontage and amazing trails.
  8. Discover art outdoors with Art Al Fresco as you walk Boerne’s trail system in search of the next art installation.
  9. More recently, view sculptures from world renowned artists in the sculpture garden at Shoppes at 222, as well as around Old Town across the street.
  10. Visit one of Boerne’s roadside attractions. There are a whole bunch, such as the Muffler Man Cowboy and the Giant Rocker, so check out our guide.
  11. Explore a more remote natural area such as Joshua Springs Park and Preserve, Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area, or James Kiehl River Bend Park on the edges of town and in Comfort.
  12. Try your hand at pickleball or tennis at Boerne Tennis Center. You can show up pretty much any time of any day and rotate in to a pickleball game, no matter your level.

Go Shopping

If you want to shop, you’ve come to the right town. Here are some fun places to visit.

  1. Find a bargain at one of the local thrift stores, such as Faith & Funky Junk. Note: we have lots of thrift stores here. No, really.
  2. Browse high end home dΓ©cor, kitchenware and more at Bechants, finding treasures for every taste. There’s a really wide range of very nice stuff here. Think Neiman Marcus, but independent. They also have a Bechant’s Men store across the street on Main.
  3. Shop fine art and jewelry at Texas Treasures Co., which includes three shops off Main Street: Texas Treasures Fine Art, Texas Treasures Fine Jewelry, and Texas Treasures Frame Shop.
  4. Hunt for antique treasures at John’s Road Antique Mall. There are tons of booths, so you’ll never know what you’ll find. You can also find patio furniture and other cool stuff outside – and usually for pretty decent prices.
  5. Celebrate Christmas all year at the Christmas Shoppe, a festive shopping experience.
  6. Discover vintage and unique items at Flashback Funtiques, where the past is present. Think vintage signs and the like. This is probably the most fun store in Boerne.
  7. Enjoy a coffee while shopping at the boutique inside the Dienger Trading Co, blending leisure with retail therapy.
  8. Get the best pickles in Texas and shop for antiques at Fickle Pickles, a dual delight.
  9. Shop for reclaimed architectural goods at Boerne Farmhouse.
  10. Spend the entire day shopping local shops up and down the Hill Country Mile – there are too many to name here!
  11. Explore vendors at Boerne Market Days every month.
  12. Find handmade goods from 25+ different makers under one roof at Handmade on Main.

Enjoy Family Time in Boerne

Kinder Park Slide

At its heart, Boerne is a small town that puts family first. Here are some of the best things to do with your kids in Boerne.

  1. Slide the giant slide down the hill at Kinder Park. Hands down the best park for kids in Boerne. Don’t let the size of the slide scare you – it does a good job of slowing the kids down at the end. So it’s pretty good for the little ones (just make sure it’s not wet…I have a bad story about that).
  2. Play arcade games and pinball at Hamby’s for a blast from the past. While you’re at it, know that while the burgers are good, the corn dogs aren’t to be overlooked!
  3. Try a class at The Little Gym to get your little ones tumbling and having fun in a safe environment. Learn more here.
  4. Skate or scooter at the Boerne Skate Park, a haven for thrill-seekers. There’s a mix of teenage skater kids and little ones on their scooters here.
  5. Go wild at Arrow’s Active Play Park, where indoor playground adventures await. This is a good way to escape the heat in the summer. Ball pits, slides, things like that. Not a bad place to work on your computer while the kids play.
  6. Take an art class at Gina Marie’s Art Studio, fostering creativity for all ages. They also have camps usually for Spring Break and during the summer.
  7. Build and play at Bricks & Minifigs, the ultimate LEGO haven.
  8. Live like royalty at Spoil Me Kids Spa, a pampering experience for young ones.
  9. Book a tea party at Tiara Tea Parties off Pecan Street.
  10. Explore aquatic life at Red Crest Pet Shop. There are tons of fish, lizards, snakes, etc. This place is a hidden gem the kids love. And they have huge, really cheap bones for the dogs.
  11. Be amazed by the Patrick Heath Public Library, more than just booksβ€”it’s an experience. It’s one of the best libraries I’ve ever been too. Great play area for the kids. Tons of events you can find here.
  12. Discover the past at the Old Jail Museum and The AgriCultural, where history comes to life. Also, on the second and fourth Saturday of the month, there is a Bluegrass Jam you can watch at the AgriCultural. There’s also a live blacksmith sometimes.
  13. Play mini golf at Cooper’s Kingdom which will be open as of November 2024. There will be black lit courses, arcade games, and more.
  14. Visit a historic church. On Main Street we have two historic churches dating all the way back to the 1800’s: St. Peter the Apostle and St. Helena’s. They have beautiful architecture!

Health & Wellness

Want to get healthy or just feel better? Here are a few ideas to try in town.

  1. Try a free freeze session at iCryo of Boerne, located next to H-E-B in Fair Oaks.
  2. Attend a community jiu jitsu class on Sundays at Black Diamond Martial Arts off School Street.
  3. Get hydrated with an IV drip at Enrich Health & Wellness. They also offer vitamin infusions for lasting recovery.
  4. Take a yoga class at one of the studios in town, or for free at Yoga in the Park or First Friday Yoga at Boerne Library. During the late spring and early summer, you can also experience goat yoga at Herff Farm thanks to Pipe Creek Soap Company.
  5. Book a relaxing massage at one of Boerne’s many spas. Spots like Alchemy Massage and Body Revival offer the ultimate in relaxation.
  6. Find all natural groceries, snacks, and supplements at Nature’s Presence on North Main Street. This is also a great place just to get educated on health food products and supplements.
  7. Get stretched at StretchLab Boerne. Think of it almost like a relaxing physical therapy session. You have to experience it to understand.

There you have it – 57 things to do in Boerne. Whether you’re just visiting, or you live here, bookmark this list to make sure you try them all.
