Boerne is a great place to live if you like to get the kids outside. After all, our part of the Texas Hill Country is beautiful, and there are tons of great natural areas to explore.
Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always cooperate. Sometimes it’s raining (if we’re lucky!), sometimes it’s an oven outside. Every now and then it even snows!
Whatever the case is, if you’re stuck indoors, eventually the kids are going to drive you crazy (I’m talking to myself here!). So with that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the top things to do with kids in Boerne when the weather stinks.
1. Cooper’s Kingdom

Head over to Cooper’s Kingdom for a round of mini golf and indoor arcade games. It’s a family-friendly spot that’s perfect for an afternoon of entertainment indoors. It’s worth noting that the black-lit putt-putt course may be too scary for the littles ones. However, they do have a sizable arcade that’s suitable for all ages.
It’s a great spot that you have to experience to truly understand. We’re partnering with them to make sure everyone knows they’re here in Boerne. So head over to 129 Old San Antonio Rd and tell them The Boerne Life sent you!
2. Structured Play at The Little Gym
With a structured weekly curriculum designed to develop motor skills, coordination, and confidence, The Little Gym offers fun, engaging gymnastics-based classes starting as young as 4 months—plus open play sessions where kids can explore, move, and have fun in a safe environment.
3. Explore a Local Cave
Bundle up and head underground in one of our two local caves: Cascade Caverns or Cave Without a Name. It’s always a consistent temperature down in the caves, and the natural formations will have your kids in awe. It’s a fun mix of adventure and education that’s great for all ages.
4. Play Pinball at Hamby’s
Enjoy a retro throwback while the kids explore vintage arcade games and pinball machines at Hamby’s, one of the more kid-friendly restaurants in town. Pair the fun with their delicious menu of corn dogs, fries, burgers, and more—it’s a win for everyone. Make sure to check out our event calendar, as they often have vintage movie nights!
5. Have Pizza and Movie Nostalgia at Darkside
Grab a slice at Darkside Brick Oven Pizza, where the 80s vibes and movie memorabilia will keep the whole family entertained. From “E.T.” to “Back to the Future,” it’s like stepping into a time machine with fantastic pizza as your fuel. It’s probably the most original restaurant concept in town.
6. Grab a Sweet Treat
Cold and wet? Warm up with something sweet at a local bakery like Bear Moon Bakery. From cupcakes to cookies to pastries, there’s always something delicious to satisfy a sweet tooth. And if you’re wanting savory, don’t miss the cheesy pigs, which made our list of top foods in Boerne.
Hot? Head to one of the ice cream shops in town. There’s Michoacan, Salty & Sweet, and Blithe Creamery. You can’t go wrong with any of them!
7. Head to the Library
The Patrick Heath Public Library is packed with free fun for kids. Check out books, join storytime, or explore their interactive play areas. It’s a great way to sneak in some learning while staying comfortable. We really do have one of the best libraries anywhere in the state.
8. Visit a Giant Indoor Playground
Arrow’s Active Playpark is a 3-story playground on the east side of town towards Bergheim. Its fun for kids to play and go crazy, and nice for adults to have coffee or a beer/glass of wine if you so choose.
