Bat Season 2026 returns to Old Tunnel State Park, offering a unique opportunity to witness one of the Hill Country’s most fascinating natural events. The season begins May 1 and runs through October 31 at 781 Old No 9 Hwy, Comfort, TX 78013.

Visitors can watch thousands of bats emerge from the historic tunnel at dusk, with two viewing options available. Lower viewing is offered Thursday through Sunday for $5 per person and is limited to guests ages 4 and older. Upper viewing is available every night for $2 per person and is open to all ages.

All tickets must be purchased online in advance at texasstateparks.org/oldtunnel, as no on-site payments are accepted. Tickets are expected to become available for purchase around March 2. A valid bat-viewing ticket is required to remain in the park after 5 pm during the season.

Pets are not allowed in the park or viewing areas for the safety of both animals and the bat population. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, as cell service in the area may be limited.
