A hands-on and educational gardening experience takes place during the Composting Workshop: Turning Scraps into Soil on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at Herff Farm, 33 Herff Rd., Boerne, TX 78006.

Held in the Teaching Garden during the Farmers Market, this workshop introduces the fundamentals of composting through live demonstrations. Participants will learn how food scraps, yard waste, and everyday materials can be transformed into nutrient-rich soil for gardens of all sizes.

The session covers different composting methods, what materials can and cannot be composted, and how to balance “greens” and “browns” for effective results. Designed for beginners and experienced gardeners alike, the workshop offers practical tips for composting at home, whether in a backyard, raised bed, or small urban space.

Led by instructors Shyann Martinez and Sarah Berringer, the class provides a simple and impactful way to reduce waste and improve soil health.
