Early Settlers of the Honey Creek Area: Homestead Site Visit at Honey Creek State Natural Area

Explore the history of the Honey Creek area during a special visit to the Doeppenschmidt-Weidner Homestead at Honey Creek State Natural Area on Saturday, October 24. Hosted by the Friends of Guadalupe River State Park and Honey Creek State Natural Area, the visit includes stops at the homesteads of Adam and Peter Doeppenschmidt and the gravesite of Jacob Doeppenschmidt.
Attendees can also hear stories and memories from Sara Weidner Turner, a descendant of Otto Carl Weidner who frequently visited her grandparents’ home at the ranch during the 1960s. The conversation will take place in the picnic area in front of the old ranch house, offering a personal perspective on the area’s history. This part of the State Natural Area is not generally open to the public and can only be visited on special occasions such as this.
Those interested can attend a related presentation beforehand from 10:30 am to noon at Mammen Family Public Library, located at 131 Bulverde Crossing, Bulverde, TX 78163.
The homestead site visit runs from 12:30 to 2:30 pm on October 24 at Honey Creek State Natural Area.
