Star Party at Singing Water Vineyards

October 9 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Star Party at Singing Water Vineyards

Singing Water Vineyards will provide a family-friendly setting for an evening of stargazing with the Kendall County Friends of the Night Sky (KCFNS) and the Boerne Kendall County Dark Sky Group on Friday, October 9, 2026, beginning at 6:30 pm. Food and beverage service will be available from 5 pm to 9 pm, giving guests the opportunity to arrive early for dinner and enjoy a Hill Country sunset before the astronomy program begins.

The program starts at sunset at 7:11 pm with presentations featuring the Hill Country Alliance Dark Sky Preservation slideshow and local 4-H youth members of the Boerne/Kendall County Dark Sky Work Group discussing ways to make outdoor lighting more dark-sky and neighbor-friendly. Amateur astronomers from KCFNS will then offer opportunities for stargazing, along with a constellation tour using astronomy mobile phone apps to explore the stories and legends associated with the night sky.

The October 9 gathering is expected to offer dark-sky viewing conditions with Saturn prominently visible in the southeastern to southern sky and Venus appearing low in the western sky shortly after sunset. The Draconid meteor shower, which peaks around October 8–9, may also provide opportunities to see shooting stars during the evening.

Featured autumn constellations include Pegasus and Andromeda, Cassiopeia and Cepheus, Cygnus, Lyra and Aquila, and Cetus and Aquarius. Deep-sky viewing will highlight objects such as the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), the Great Pegasus Cluster (M15), the Dumbbell Nebula (M27), the Ring Nebula (M57), and the Double Cluster in Perseus (NGC 869 and NGC 884), with binoculars and telescopes available for enhanced viewing.

Guests are encouraged to bring red-light flashlights to help prevent light interference with the telescopes. Singing Water Vineyards is approximately a 25-minute drive from Boerne.
