Boerne City Park will soon have a stunning new addition with the arrival of “The Runner,” a bronze sculpture by renowned artist Glenna Goodacre. Donated by Bryden and Kay Moon, the sculpture was officially accepted during the October 8, 2024, City Council meeting.
The life-sized sculpture of a woman stretching preparing to run will be installed near walking and running trails at the City Park, in front of the playground (which will also be receiving a facelift soon).

The Moons will generously cover all transportation and installation costs, with the city only having to cover minimal long-term maintenance costs.
“The Runner” is expected to become a new landmark, celebrating the active, outdoor spirit of Boerne. We’ll be running by it multiple times a week ourselves! It’s also located where countless families arriving for soccer and tennis will be able to see and enjoy it.
The artist, Glenna Goodacre, is Texas-born and known for her iconic works, including the Vietnam Women’s Memorial which was installed in Washington, D.C., and the Sacagawea dollar coin. “The Runner,” which she crafted in 1997, exemplifies her unique ability to capture the beauty of the human form in motion.
Goodacre’s work is recognized for its deep emotional impact, and “The Runner” is sure to become a beloved feature of the park.
Boerne City Park continues to be a go-to spot for recreation, and the addition of “The Runner” will enhances its appeal. This new installation invites everyone to celebrate the merging of art, nature, and community.
Note: The statue has not yet been installed. The photo at the beginning of the article is a representation to show where the statue will reside.
