3 Local Shops on Main Street Set to Close for Retirement

Downtown Boerne is known for its walkable charm, friendly faces, and family-owned shops. But soon, three longtime Main Street staples will be saying goodbye as their owners step into retirement.

Here’s a tribute to the local businesses preparing to close, and how you can support them before they go.

The Red Rooster

Location: 225–227 S. Main Street

The Red Rooster is preparing to close after decades of service to the Boerne community. Owner Grace Wormington has been in business in Boerne since 1989. She and her husband purchased the building 15 years ago and have been there ever since.

The Red Rooster has become a standout retail destination both locally and nationally, named three times in the Top 20 Home Décor Stores in the U.S. by Gifts and Decorative Accessories Magazine. Known for its unique mix of antiques, home décor, and handpicked gifts, the shop has long been a go-to for shoppers seeking charm and character.

Grace’s daughter, Jennifer Finch, has worked alongside her mother for the past 20 years, helping carry on the store’s legacy of thoughtful curation and warm customer service. Now, as Grace steps into retirement, the store is offering 40% off everything (excluding large tables) as part of a final clearance sale.

The building itself is also for sale, offering a rare chance to own a prime dual-storefront property on Boerne’s Hill Country Mile. At roughly 2,000 square feet, it’s a dream opportunity for anyone looking to continue the tradition of Main Street retail.

Jac’s Personal Touch

Location: 170 S. Main Street, Ste. 100 (next to Cypress Grille)

Since 1989, Jac’s Personal Touch has been a Hill Country Mile favorite. Owned by Bill and Jac Spruce, the shop has welcomed generations of locals and visitors alike with its mix of friendly hospitality and curated home goods.

But after more than three decades, the Spruces are retiring, prompted in part by Bill’s ongoing health challenges. The store will remain open through September, offering a final chance for the community to stop in and say goodbye.

A massive retirement sale is underway, with 60% off storewide, excluding warmers. It’s a meaningful opportunity to shop local, support a legacy, and send this beloved couple off with gratitude. The store looks to close at the end of this month.

259 Home Market

Location: 259 S. Main Street

Rounding out the trio of retirements is 259 Home Market, another gem on Main Street known for its stylish home goods and welcoming atmosphere. The owner, Jordis Ernst, has announced plans to retire at the end of September, and a 30% off storewide sale is currently in place (linens excluded).

259 Home Market has quietly earned its place as a go-to for unique finds and beautiful home touches, and the closing marks another shift in the ever-evolving Hill Country Mile landscape.

They will also close by the end of September.

What This Means for Boerne

While each of these closures marks the end of a chapter, they also represent a lifetime of service, creativity, and community involvement. These shop owners have helped shape Boerne’s identity, and now it’s our turn to show them some love as they prepare to step away.

So take a walk down Main Street this month. Shop the sales. Swap stories. Say thanks.

Because when local businesses close, it’s more than just a “For Lease” sign. It’s a reminder of the people and families who made our town feel like home.
