One of the Texas Hill Country’s most beloved burger spots, Alamo Springs Cafe, is making its highly anticipated return after a sudden closure earlier this year. Known for its award-winning burgers and quirky charm, the cafe, located about 30 minutes from downtown Boerne, closed abruptly in July 2024, leaving fans heartbroken. The closure, which stemmed from foreclosure issues with previous ownership, shocked the community that had long enjoyed this unique spot.
Founded in 2006, Alamo Springs Cafe quickly became a local favorite, earning recognition from Texas Monthly for its famous burgers. The cafe, set in the scenic Hill Country near Old Tunnel State Park, offers not only great food but also beautiful views.
I first visited the cafe about 10 years ago after hiking the Old Tunnel State Park trail, and it’s been a favorite spot ever since. Where else could you just get up and grab beers from the fridge, then just tell the cashier how many you had when it was time to pay? It felt like remnants of a bygone era.

Like many, I was saddened when they announced their closure, and the outpouring of memories and support from longtime customers was proof of its impact.
The owners of the property, Mike and Cindy Tangman, shared updates about the closure and the legal complexities they were dealing with, but they reassured everyone that they were working toward reopening the cafe.
As of a recent announcement, it’s official: Alamo Springs Cafe is set to start reopening gradually on December 26th under new owners, Tony and Selena, who are local to the area. With the support of the Tangmans, the new owners plan to bring back the original recipes while adding their own flavor to the menu.
The reopening will mark a new chapter for the cafe, blending old traditions with fresh ideas. Tony and Selena are determined to preserve what made the cafe special, ensuring that visitors can enjoy the same great food and welcoming atmosphere that made it famous. There’s even a hint that Melissa, a familiar face from the original team, may make an appearance during the reopening, adding to the excitement.
For those of us who have enjoyed countless meals at Alamo Springs, this news couldn’t be better. From post-hike burgers to family outings, this place holds a lot of memories. The drive from Boerne to the cafe is one of my favorite Hill Country drives, and I’m thrilled to see the cafe coming back to life.
Keep an eye out for an official opening date—Alamo Springs Cafe is set to make a triumphant return this December!
