The Boerne Greyhounds continued their historic playoff run Friday night at the Alamodome, defeating the Corpus Christi Miller Buccaneers 65-50 to claim the regional championship. This win marks another milestone for Boerne in their first-ever season competing as a 5A team, solidifying their place as one of the state’s top programs.
A High-Scoring Showdown
From the start, it was clear this game would be an offensive shootout. The Greyhounds built an early lead with efficient drives, including a 9-play, 71-yard march to take a 13-7 advantage in the first quarter. By halftime, Boerne held a 30-21 lead, thanks to a balanced attack featuring standout performances by quarterback Hank Hendrix and running back Hutson Hendrix.
The Buccaneers refused to go quietly, scoring quickly on multiple possessions in the second half to keep the game close. However, Boerne responded each time, with key plays like a 30-yard touchdown pass to Brooks Perez and Hutson Hendrix’s 4th-quarter rushing touchdown sealing the deal.
Defense Comes Up Big
While the offense shone brightly, Boerne’s defense delivered critical plays in the final quarter. With just under eight minutes left, a Greyhounds interception on 4th down halted Miller’s momentum and preserved their lead.
A Historic Victory
The 65-50 win not only secured the regional title but also sent Boerne to the state semifinals for the first time as a 5A program. The Greyhounds’ performance this season has been nothing short of extraordinary, making a statement in their new classification with their dynamic offense and resilient defense.
