The Boerne Greyhounds put on a clinic Friday night in Seguin, overpowering the Victoria West Warriors 59-15 in the 5A, Division II regional semifinal. The win not only marked the Greyhounds’ eighth consecutive victory but also secured their spot in the regional final against Corpus Christi Miller.
A Commanding Performance
Boerne wasted no time establishing control, scoring touchdowns on five of their first six possessions. Quarterback Hank Hendrix continued to shine, throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes. His brother, Hutson Hendrix, led the charge with four rushing touchdowns and a blocked punt that set up a field goal before halftime.
By the end of the first half, the Greyhounds had built an insurmountable 38-9 lead, extinguishing any momentum Victoria West had gained earlier in the game. Boerne’s offense, which amassed 302 rushing yards on 54 carries, proved too much for the Warriors to handle.
Defense Stands Tall
The Greyhounds’ defense also played a pivotal role, limiting Victoria West’s offense to a single touchdown and forcing a key turnover. The only other points the Warriors managed came from a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown in the second quarter.
With their relentless rushing attack and stout defensive performance, Boerne showcased why they’re one of the top teams in the region.
A Historic Night
Friday’s victory was special for several reasons. Not only did the Greyhounds advance to the regional finals in their first season as a 5A program, but the game also marked Head Coach Che Hendrix’s 100th career win—a milestone made even sweeter by the outstanding performances of his two sons.
Looking Ahead
The Greyhounds now turn their focus to the regional final, where they’ll face Corpus Christi Miller. The Buccaneers defeated Alamo Heights 38-28 on Friday, setting up what promises to be an exciting showdown next week at the Alamodome.
As the only remaining team from District 13, Boerne has already proven they’re a force to be reckoned with. With momentum on their side and a balanced offense led by the Hendrix brothers, the Greyhounds are poised to continue their postseason run.
Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 PM inside the Alamodome. Fans can watch live in person by purchasing tickets, or listen to the game on Boerne Radio.
