Big news for Boerne’s families and outdoor lovers—Northside Community Park is getting a major boost! The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has awarded Boerne a $750,000 grant to help fund the much-anticipated park development, making it one of the biggest funding awards given out in this round.
The 35-acre park, located near Curington Elementary and just a short drive from Main Street, is set to include a splash pad, playground, pickleball and basketball courts, trails, and even a dog park. The existing Boerne Skate Park, which borders the site, will also be expanded.
The city has already invested over $550,000 in design and engineering work, and with this latest funding secured, the project is set to break ground in summer 2025.
A Park Years in the Making
If Northside Community Park sounds familiar, that’s because it’s been in the works for a while. Boerne purchased the land back in 2007 after voters approved a bond measure, and in 2022, residents once again backed the park’s development as part of a $36 million Quality of Life bond election. The grant from TPWD will now help bring those plans to life.
“As we have seen in recent years, the cost of many things have increased, especially construction costs,” Chris Shadrock, Communications Director for the City of Boerne said. “By securing this grant it will enable the City of Boerne to enhance its public recreation areas and facilities while leveraging our 2022 Quality of Life Bond funds.”
A Park Boerne Is Excited About
We’ve been following this project closely, and it’s clear that Boerne residents are just as excited as city leaders. We’ve posted about the park’s plans multiple times, with one Facebook post showing the drawn-up designs has already been seen by over 53,000 people!
The level of interest just goes to show how much the community is looking forward to having another great outdoor space in town. If you missed it, you can check out the full plans below.
What’s Next?
With design work already in progress, the city expects to break ground this summer. According to a recent post, the project will take about a year.
This grant marks a major milestone for Northside Community Park, ensuring that Boerne residents will soon have even more places to play, explore, and enjoy the outdoors.
Stay tuned for updates as construction gets underway!
