Local Favorite Spots to Get Soup in Boerne

  1. Bumdoodler’s Lunch Co.
Broccoli cheddar, vegetable soup, split pea with ham, potato soup, and tomato basil all earned major love. This was the most mentioned spot by far, with multiple soups getting repeat praise.
  2. Compadres Hill Country Cocina
Wela’s fideo was mentioned again and again, along with brisket chili when it’s available. Several locals said they buy extra whenever these hit the menu. I am one of those locals. In fact, this is what’s in the featured photo at the top of this article.
  3. The Creek
Three words: Creamy Poblano Soup. Ask for extra bread. Trust us.
  4. El Rio
Their tortilla soup is a go-to for many, especially when the weather turns cold. This is an old school Boerne staple.
  5. Las Palapas
Chicken soup with rice and chicken tortilla soup are two go-to soups for many people, with some people saying it’s better than some of the longtime favorites in town.
  6. Hungry Horse Restaurant
You probably wouldn’t expect it from a down home country cookin’ place, but Hungry Horse’s chicken tortilla soup is a favorite of longtime locals around town.
  7. The Kendall
French onion soup continues to be a favorite, even after the end of Peggy’s era.
  8. Bevy Hotel Boerne
French onion soup and white bean chili both earned mentions as good soups. My wife is a fan of the white bean chili, in particular.
  9. Epicure
Known for rotating daily soups, Epicure was praised for consistently offering something different and well done. If you’ve ever eaten at Epicure, you’ll know that they simply can’t do wrong… soup or sandwich.
  10. Pinchy’s Lobster & Raw Bar
Clam chowder, she crab soup, and red snapper soup all received shoutouts, making this a top pick for seafood lovers. Which makes sense, as a seafood establishment.
  11. Cypress Grill
Their Shiner Bock beer soup was called out as a must-try. Haven’t tried it myself, but I’ve never had a bad dish at Cypress Grille.
  12. Dodging Duck Brewhaus
Split pea soup and a seasonal chicken pot pie soup at this brewery both made the list. Not going to lie: I don’t love split pea soup, but my wife swears by it. Opposites attract!
  13. Bear Moon Bakery
Lentil soup and chicken and dumplings were both offered as great soups to try at Bear Moon. I stand behind the chicken and dumplings, in particular.
  14. Lung Fung
Egg drop soup was the favorite here, but I personally love their hot & sour soup.
  15. Shanghai
Chicken corn soup earned multiple mentions. if you’ve never been, this restaurant is tucked back in the H-E-B parking lot.
  16. N’s Thai
Tom Yum and green curry were popular picks for those craving something with a little heat. The Boerne Life Wife loves the curry (I’m more of a Thai wings guy myself).
  17. Mague’s Cafe
Menudo and pozole were both recommended by multiple commenters. Menudo in particular I’ve noticed is a favorite of longtime locals.
  18. Reyna Tapatia
Caldo de res and caldo de pollo were described as some of the best in town. This is a spot that I think flies under the radar.
  19. Brantley’s Bistro
A quieter favorite, but still mentioned by locals when soup season hits. Their soup of the day changes, but I pretty much believe Brantley’s can do no wrong. Love their food.
  20. Boerne Grill
Boerne Grill is one of my favorite breakfast spots, but apparently I should be eating their lunch too. And the tomato basil soup is supposed to be really good.
  21. Las Guitarras Cocina Mexicana
At the beginning of every meal, you get a small bowl of Fideo. While it’s very different than the Wela’s Fideo at Compadres, it’s very good in its own right.
  22. HEB
Multiple readers pointed out that the deli soups and gumbo are surprisingly solid options. I’ve been known to hit up their soup bar a time or two.

Soup season clearly brings out strong opinions in Boerne, and this list proves there’s no shortage of great bowls around town. If your favorite didn’t make the list, add it to the comments so we all know about it!
