A new business is officially taking over the former Red Rooster space on Main Street.

Art Spa House is performing building upgrades and moving into the former Red Rooster building at 225–227 South Main Street in downtown Boerne. The news comes after the business received approval from Boerne’s Historic Landmark Commission for exterior improvements and signage during a recent meeting.

The Red Rooster closed at the end of 2025 after 35 years on Main Street as its owners retired and sold the building. While many locals knew the store had closed, what would replace it had not yet been publicly confirmed.

Art Spa House is owned by Lauren and Robert Bells, who currently operate a spa location in San Antonio. During the Historic Landmark Commission meeting, the owners shared that while the business is new to Boerne, they are not strangers to the community.

Robert Bells previously worked across the street at Rock Street Antiques before City Hall was even built, and the couple was married at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne several years ago.

The spa will occupy both suites of the building and plans to make updates that stay within the existing structure and historic guidelines. Approved improvements include new windows and doors, a refreshed exterior paint scheme, and a non-illuminated wall sign reading “Art Spa House.” Lighting fixtures and awning changes will be reviewed separately at a later date. No changes to the building footprint or historic character were proposed.

Commissioners approved both the exterior improvements and signage, clearing the way for work to move forward.

Art Spa House has not yet announced an opening date for the Boerne location, but with approvals now in place, exterior updates can begin. In fact, if you’ve driven by in the last couple of days, you’ll see work is well underway.
