When I stopped by the new Foundry Hill Country shop next to Mary’s Tacos last week, I didn’t expect to stumble into a piece of Boerne history. But that’s exactly what happened when I met Diana Miller Biela, one of the sisters behind the newly opened Redbirds & Feathers.
The shop, which shares space inside Foundry Hill Country at 608 E. Blanco Road, is a soft opening for now, but it already carries a legacy that stretches back nearly 50 years.

Diana and her sister, Brenda Miller Katzer, opened Redbirds & Feathers in honor of their mother who passed away in 2021, Angie Miller. She ran one of the first antique and used furniture shops in Boerne. Angie’s Affordable Furniture opened in the late 1970s on Blanco Road, and later moved to a strip center on Main Street.

The shop was known for its unique antiques, high-quality furniture, and fair prices, and even more so for Angie herself, who was described as kind, hardworking, and deeply woven into the Boerne community.
Angie helped organize turkey donations for local families in need, delivered papers for the Boerne Star, and worked her way up to an editor’s role. She also volunteered with BISD while raising her three kids in town. Diana remembers riding along in the family’s blue van on Saturday mornings, tossing newspapers into lawns around Boerne.
“Our mom was a well-known lady in our community back in the good ole days,” Diana said. “She never met a stranger… and was the go-to lady in our community if looking for a certain piece of furniture or item for the household.”
But the story starts even further back than that with Gigi (their grandmother Dorothy McConnell), who sold purses on top of her station wagon in her front yard in SA on Morrison Blvd.

“All of us cousins would play on swings in front yard,” Diana said. “As customers stopped, our job was to go inside to get Gramma for the sale… so many special memories with this lady!”
For the sisters, reopening a shop on Blanco Road feels like life coming full circle. “It’s down the street from where it all started almost 50 years ago,” she said. “We hope to continue finding treasures for the community the same way our mother did back in the day.”
Redbirds & Feathers joins Foundry Hill Country, a new home décor and vintage collective that’s quickly becoming a creative corner of Boerne’s east side. In addition to their booth in Boerne, the sisters also sell at Fredericksburg Trade Days each month.

Whether you’re a longtime local who remembers Angie’s Affordable Furniture or someone just discovering Boerne’s growing vintage scene, Redbirds & Feathers is a meaningful addition to town, built on family, history, and a love of finding hidden gems.
Redbirds & Feathers is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm inside Foundry Hill Country at 608 E. Blanco Road.

I love the story about Angie, and how her daughters are carrying on her legacy.
