One of the best meteor showers of the year is about to peak tonight, and Boerne-area residents could have a pretty good chance to catch it.

The Perseid meteor shower can produce around 50 to 100 visible meteors per hour under ideal conditions, including especially bright fireballs.
What makes this especially interesting is that this year’s show also lines up with a new moon, meaning very little moonlight should interfere with viewing.
The peak is expected overnight Wednesday into early Thursday, although meteors can be spotted on other nights this week too. For South-Central Texas, the best viewing window is expected to be roughly midnight to 3 am, before increasing cloud cover could make things more difficult.
For the best chance of seeing them, get away from the lights around town, find a dark spot with a wide view of the sky, and give your eyes 20–30 minutes to adjust to the darkness. Look generally toward the northeast and the constellation Perseus, although meteors can streak across other parts of the sky as well.
And if midnight is a little past your bedtime(as it is for us!), you may still catch a few after 10 pm.
