1. Don’t Mispronounce the Name
First things first—make sure you’re saying it right! Boerne is pronounced “Ber-nee.” Mispronouncing it might give away that you’re new in town, but now you’re in the know.
2. Don’t Run Over the Ducks on River Road
River Road is home to a beloved duck population. These feathered residents frequently waddle into the street, inspiring the name of the local eatery, The Dodging Duck. Drive with care, and keep an eye out for these VIPs (Very Important Poultry).
3. Don’t Feed the Ducks
While the ducks may look hungry, feeding them is actually harmful to their health and disrupts the ecosystem. Signs are posted throughout the area as a reminder, so let the ducks stick to their natural diet.
4. Don’t Forget to Pay at the Lot Next to The Richter
Parking in Boerne is mostly free, but there’s one notable exception: the lot next to The Richter. It’s privately owned, and you’ll need to pay for your spot to avoid a ticket or a boot on your car.

5. Don’t Jaywalk on Main Street
Boerne’s Main Street may look picturesque, but the traffic moves fast. Stick to the crosswalks when exploring downtown—it’s safer and less stressful for everyone.
6. Don’t Trip on the Curbs on North Main
If you’re walking along North Main, be extra careful at the corners. The curbs wrap around in a way that’s easy to trip over. We’ve learned this one from personal experience!
7. Don’t Bring Alcohol to Boerne Lake
Planning a visit to Boerne Lake? Keep in mind that alcohol is prohibited there. Save the drinks for other parts of town, and enjoy the lake’s natural beauty instead.
