26 Best Things to Do in Boerne with Kids

Looking for the best things to do in Boerne with kids? This is a very family-friendly town with plenty of family friendly options. Whether you’re looking to get outside and enjoy nature, or escape the heat indoors, here are some of our favorite things to do with our children.

Sponsored by Olde Town Plumbing

Speaking of kids, quick story for you. Our son “accidentally” flushed a flashlight down the toilet, and we couldn’t get it out.

We called Olde Town Plumbing, a local, family-owned business with literally hundreds of five star reviews. They came out and handled the entire thing for us, and did a great job.

They did a great job for us, and now they’re ready to do a great job for you. Whether you need a toilet fixed, pipes replaced, gas lines repaired… they have your back! Call them at (830) 446-5227 or visit them on the web here.

After you read the list, make sure you keep scrolling to see the event calendar for current family events!

Things to Do Indoors in Boerne with Kids

Here are some of our favorite activities for our family – great for when the weather doesn’t cooperate. Try them all!

  1. Arcade Games at Hamby’s: Hamby’s has a classic feel with vintage pinball and other arcade games, with great food. And if you want claw-style games, El Chapparal has an entire room filled with them. And both are great places to eat with kids. Bonus: Hamby’s has a small carousel outside for toddlers and preschoolers, which is now FREE!
  2. Cave Tours at Cave Without a Name or Cascade Caverns: Explore the underground beauty of Boerne with guided tours that reveal stunning formations and hidden wonders, making for an educational and awe-inspiring experience. Cascade Caverns also has a really cool giant dinosaur to take pictures with. Both caves are a great way to escape both the cold or the heat, as their temperatures inside are mild and stable all year long.
  3. Take a class at The Little Gym Boerne: For your littlest ones, The Little Gym is a safe space for them to have fun while building physical skills and emotional endurance. Worth noting, this is one of the best spots for an easy birthday party in town. Learn more here.
  4. Visit the Boerne Library: More than just books, the Boerne Library offers a sanctuary of learning with special programs and activities designed to ignite young imaginations – from story time to video game afternoons for teens . You can see what events are coming up here.
  5. Old Jail Museum: Visit a real jail from the old days of Boerne on the second and fourth Saturday of the month. One of the coolest pieces of history in Boerne, if you ask me. Learn more here.
  6. Art Class at Gina Marie’s Art Studio: Unleash your child’s creativity with art classes that cater to young artists of all skill levels, fostering a love for art in a fun environment. You can view the various classes here.
  7. Dessert at Local Ice Cream Shops or Bakeries: Indulge in sweet treats that will delight the taste buds of every family member. Top of the list for our family is Bear Moon Bakery. Their pastries are the best, for breakfast or lunch. There’s also Michoacàn A Pedir de Boca for Mexican ice cream treats, which is a huge crowd pleaser.
  8. Lego Store Bricks & Minifigs: A paradise for LEGO lovers, this after-market LEGO store is a blast for your kids. They can even sell or trade!
  9. Indoor Fun at Arrow Active Play Park: An indoor playground that provides a safe and energetic environment for kids to run, jump, and play, regardless of the weather outside. There’s an area for parents to sit, eat, and work as well.
  10. Saturday Night Bowling at Boerne Turn Verein: Strike up family fun with bowling nights that offer a blend of friendly competition and laughter, perfect for all ages. It’s worth noting, when we say this bowling alley is old timey, we mean it in all senses – they still allow smoking. They have air purifiers, so it’s not smokey, but there’s definitely that old school hint of old smoke. That said, families definitely come. It’s a fun weekend event to mix things up.
  11. Check out the Red Crest Pet Shop. This unassuming old pet store is one of our favorite hidden gems. There are tons of fish, lizards, snakes, guinea pigs, and more for the kids to see. Great place to buy your dog treats too – great value.
  12. Catch a movie on the cheap at Boerne AMC Classic. Our local AMC is pretty small and super comfortable. And if you see a movie before 4 pm, you can snag a matinee discount of 25% off the evening ticket price! And if you join their Insider program, there are more discounts available on Tuesdays. Find out more about discounts here.
  13. Give back to the community. If you’ve never volunteered with your children, it really can be a great experience to bring the entire family together while teaching valuable lessons. Check out our Volunteer Guide for some ideas.
  14. Let your kid push a tiny shopping basket at Taylor’s Ace Hardware while you support a local hardware store.
  15. Visit Cooper’s Kingdom for indoor mini-golf and arcade.

Outdoor Family Fun in Boerne

  1. Playground at Kinderpark: A community favorite park, featuring play structures that inspire active play and imagination in a beautiful outdoor setting. The slide down the hill is gigantic, but don’t worry – it’s appropriate for even some of the little ones. This is one of the best budget-friendly kids activities in town! And more recently, they’ve added a great playground behind the library!
  2. Restaurants with Playgrounds: Enjoy a meal where kids can play within sight, combining delicious food with fun in a family-friendly atmosphere at restaurants like Pure Country, Inferno’s Pizza, and more.
  3. Hiking Cibolo Nature Center and Playing in the Water at the Crossing: Cibolo Nature Center offers trails fit for all ages to hike. There’s a water crossing where kids can play as long as the water quality is good. There’s a fort, and even dinosaur tracks!
  4. Farmers Market and Herff Farm: Connect with local farmers and artisans, offering families a chance to explore fresh produce and handmade goods in a lively outdoor setting. There’s also the Herff Farm with a hatchery, and more. There are usually games like corn hole for the kids too. The Farmer’s Market really picks up in the Spring.
  5. Swim at the Municipal Pool: Beat the heat with a splash, where kids can enjoy swimming in safe, supervised conditions, making for a refreshing summer day. The Municipal Pool is open during the summer, end of May through early August.
  6. Skate or Scooter at Boerne Skate Park: A haven for skaters and scooter enthusiasts, providing a well-designed space for riders of all skill levels to practice and have fun. And there’s a nice park surrounding it (which is the bets spot for bluebonnets in the spring).
  7. Ice Cream Sandwich at Blithe Creamery: Savor the unique delight of gourmet ice cream sandwiches, combining homemade cookies and ice cream for a perfect treat at this walkup ice cream shop. You have to see it to believe it.
  8. Listen to Live Music at Family-Friendly Beer Gardens: Experience the vibrant local music scene in settings that welcome families, offering great tunes, food, and a relaxed atmosphere. Breweries like Free Roam Brewing and Dodging Duck are some of the most family friendly. Check out the live music calendar here.
  9. Head out to Boerne Lake for the day and go swimming, play disc golf, throw rocks, paddleboard, and more.
  10. Cool off with a snow cone at The Stand by the Dienger!
  11. Play basketball and escape the sun and rain at the Northrup Pavilion!
