Free Tax Preparation Available at the Boerne Library

Tax season can be stressful, but Boerne residents once again have access to free, reliable tax preparation help right in the heart of town.

The Patrick Heath Public Library is partnering with the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program to offer free, in-person tax preparation services for the 2026 tax season. The service is open to anyone who files federal income taxes, with no income limits, age requirements, or AARP membership needed.

Getting good, affordable health insurance can prove challenging. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Penn Mallery, a local insurance expert who specializes in customizing custom insurance solutions for small businesses and families. Call him at 806-368-1944 to see if he can help you.

Tax preparation will take place in the Community Room at the Boerne Public Library from now through April 15, 2026. Appointments are available Monday through Wednesday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Returns are prepared by IRS-certified volunteers who receive annual training and stay current on tax law changes. While volunteers are not IRS employees, they are certified by the IRS and can assist with the most commonly used tax forms. Services are available in both English and Spanish, with a Spanish-speaking volunteer available every Monday.

Appointments are required and can be scheduled online beginning Thursday, January 15, through the AARP Tax-Aide appointment system. Space is limited, and demand is typically high, so residents are encouraged to book early.

Taxpayers should bring a photo ID, Social Security card for each person listed on the return, a copy of the previous year’s tax return, and any relevant tax documents. If filing jointly, both spouses must be present. The location is handicap accessible.

This annual service continues to be a valuable resource for individuals and families looking for trusted, no-cost tax assistance and highlights the Boerne Public Library’s ongoing role as a community support hub.

Appointments can be made here.
