Boerne Will Help Pay for Your Rain Harvesting System

File this under something you probably didn’t know… If you’re a Boerne resident looking to conserve water and reduce your utility bill, you may be eligible for the city’s Rainwater Harvesting Rebate Program.

Since May 2024, Boerne has offered a $150 rebate for residents who install a rain harvesting system with a minimum capacity of 50 gallons. It’s an easy, eco-friendly way to save on outdoor water use while contributing to local conservation efforts.

Our Friends at Hammer Next Level Can Help

Hammer Next Level is our trusted partner who handles design and implementation of rain harvesting systems. They are a local, family-run business who specializes in water storage tank and pump installation, rainwater capture systems, and trenching for power and water lines.

They’ve helped homeowners across the Hill Country get prepared for drought and protect their water supply. And they can help you design and install a system that qualifies for Boerne’s rebate — and makes the most of every drop that falls. You can learn more about them here.

How the Rainwater Harvesting Rebate Works

Through Boerne’s Water Conservation Rebate Program, homeowners can receive a rebate of up to $150 for the purchase and installation of a rainwater storage tank (read: rain barrel). This rebate covers the cost of the rain barrel itself and any necessary installation supplies, as long as the total amount doesn’t exceed $150.

The rebate comes in the form of a credit on your water bill.

Rain barrels are a great way to collect and store rainwater, which can then be used for gardening, landscaping, and other outdoor needs, reducing your dependence on municipal water.

Not only is rainwater collection a smart move for your wallet, but it also helps conserve one of our most precious resources. By reducing your use of treated municipal water, you’re contributing to the long-term sustainability of Boerne’s water supply.

Additional Rebates for Your Irrigation System

In addition to the rainwater harvesting rebate, Boerne’s program also offers two other rebates to improve the efficiency of your existing sprinkler system. These are great add-ons if you want to take water conservation a step further.

Irrigation System Consultation Rebate
Boerne offers a $150 rebate for residents who complete a consultation with a state-licensed landscape irrigator. During the consultation, a professional will assess your irrigation system and provide recommendations to make it more efficient, reducing water waste and potentially lowering your water bill over time.

Irrigation System Rain/Freeze Sensor Rebate
For those interested in enhancing their irrigation systems with smart technology, Boerne also provides a $100 rebate for installing a rain or freeze sensor. These sensors prevent your irrigation system from running when it’s raining or during freezing temperatures, conserving water and protecting your plants from overwatering or damage in extreme weather.

How to Apply

Applying for these rebates is simple. You just need to complete the online Water Conservation Rebate Form and submit proof of purchase and photos of the installed equipment (for irrigation consultation, you also need this form). Once approved, the rebate will be issued as a credit on your water bill, providing immediate and ongoing savings.
