Desperado Resort is Now Open for Hiking and Primitive Camping

Boerne just got a brand-new spot for outdoor adventure! According to a post by Recreation Manager Preston Carter on the Boerne Hiking & Outdoors Facebook Group, Desperado Resort is officially open, offering locals and visitors a fresh place to hike, camp, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Hill Country. Located at 646 FM 474, this new outdoor getaway features five miles of trails, free-range primitive camping, and access to the river for hiking, biking, and outdoor fun.

For those looking to explore, day passes are available for just $15 per adult, with discounts for kids, military, and seniors. Camping options include tent and car camping at $25 per night and RV boon-docking at $35 per night. A porta potty is available on-site, but visitors should come prepared for a true primitive camping experience.

Pro tip: Carter said they will offer 50% off entry for the month of February when you mention their post in the Boerne Hiking and Trail Facebook group.

Guests must check in during office hours, Friday through Monday from 8 am to 4 pm, and first-time visitors are required to sign a waiver. Season pass holders who have volunteered three or more days can enjoy free day passes and discounted camping rates.

This resort was formerly the Guadalupe River Ranch Resort, which was abandoned for some 20 years. It was then purchased by YouTuber Matt Carriker in 2023, and he has since been working on restoring it.

However, he has since listed the ranch for sale as he decided to retire, but apparently that didn’t keep them from opening up the ranch for outdoor use.
