It’s still hot here in Boerne, but September always brings the first inklings of fall. By mid-month, the mornings start to feel a little bit cooler, and the calendar begins filling with concerts, fundraisers, markets, and outdoor fun. Here are some of the biggest events to look forward to this September.
1. Featured Sponsor: Joshua Creek Ranch
September is a big month at Joshua Creek Ranch, with a little bit of summer fun still hanging around and hunting season getting underway. The popular Helice “Gold-N-Glow” Fun Shoots have been extended with two more dates on September 3 and 24, featuring regular targets before sunset and glow targets after dark. Wednesday Steak Nights have also been extended through September 30, and the Shooters Cantina will remain open Thursday through Sunday through September 27.
Then it’s time for hunting season. Private driven pheasant shoots begin September 15, with an early-bird special offering $100 off per shooter on private shoots booked through October 4. The ranch’s fall Open Line season kicks off September 26 with a Standard Pheasant shoot, giving individual shooters and smaller groups a chance to experience Joshua Creek Ranch’s European-style driven shooting without organizing a full private group.

2. Chuck Wagon Breakfast
September 2 | 7:30–9:30 AM | Kendall County Fairgrounds
Start Kendall County Fair week with a free old-fashioned Chuck Wagon Breakfast. The morning spread includes scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, peach cobbler, and coffee. Learn more.
3. Kendall County Fair
September 4–6 | Kendall County Fairgrounds
One of Boerne’s biggest annual traditions is back. The Kendall County Fair packs the weekend with rodeo action, bull riding, mutton bustin’, livestock shows, a carnival, live music, shopping, food, and plenty more.
The annual Fair Parade also rolls through the Hill Country Mile on September 5. Fair tickets range from $15 to $45. Get all the details here.
4. Family Night Hike
September 4 | Cibolo Nature Center
See the Cibolo in an entirely different way during a Family Night Hike. Families will head onto the trails around sunset to explore the plants and animals that become active as daylight disappears.

5. ReCrafted Workshop
September 4 | 10:30 AM–12:30 PM | Patrick Heath Public Library
Get creative without buying a cart full of craft supplies. This free, self-paced workshop uses recycled and natural materials to turn everyday items into something new.

6. First Saturday in Boerne
September 5 | 5 PM | Hill Country Mile
Spend the evening strolling, shopping, eating, and exploring downtown during First Saturday in Boerne, presented by The Boerne Life in partnership with the Boerne Retail & Restaurant Owners Association.
Participating shops and boutiques along the Hill Country Mile stay open late with special promotions, discounts, and other surprises, while visitors can enjoy dining and entertainment around downtown.

7. Axiom Quartet Concert
September 6 | 7:30–9:30 PM | Cave Without A Name
Head underground for one of the more unusual concert settings in the Hill Country. Axiom Quartet will perform inside Cave Without A Name, where the cave’s natural acoustics and formations make for a memorable evening of live music.

8. Murder Mystery at Lost Oak Cellars
September 11 | 7–9 PM | Lost Oak Cellars
There’s been a death, a millionaire’s will is being read, and somebody in the room may know more than they’re letting on.
Lost Oak Cellars is hosting an interactive murder mystery for adults centered around the reading of Mr. Body’s will. Tickets are $40 per person and include a small pour of house-selected white wine.
9. Boerne Market Days
September 12–13 | 10 AM–4 PM | Main Plaza
Spend the weekend browsing booths from artists, craftsmen, makers, and other vendors during Boerne Market Days at Main Plaza.
The longtime downtown market combines shopping with live music and plenty of reasons to wander the Hill Country Mile before or after.
10. Community Ragrug Making
September 12 | 12:30–2 PM | Kuhlmann-King Historical Complex
Kids can help create something that will become part of the Kuhlmann-King Historic House Museum during this hands-on community project inspired by Sophie Blackall’s book Story Rug.
Participants will work together to create a colorful braided rag rug and are asked to bring three-foot strips of fabric. Reservations are encouraged because space is limited. More info here.
11. Adoption Meet & Greet at 28 Songs Brewhouse
September 12 | 2–4 PM | 28 Songs Brewhouse + Kitchen
Looking for a new best friend? Texas Round Up Animal Alliance is bringing adoptable dogs to 28 Songs Brewhouse for an afternoon Adoption Meet & Greet.
Stop by to meet some of the dogs looking for their second chance, learn more about the rescue, and maybe head home with a new member of the family.
12. Texas Treasures Sound Sessions
September 12 | 2–7 PM | Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery & Frame Shop
Fine art gets its own soundtrack during Texas Treasures Sound Sessions. Stop by the gallery for an afternoon of original live music surrounded by artwork, along with an open bar.

13. Movie Monday: How to Train Your Dragon

The Library Hub transforms into a teen movie theater for an afternoon showing of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon.
Movie Monday takes place monthly during the school year and features popular G, PG, and PG-13 films for teens.
14. Unidos Somos Más Opening Reception
September 15 | 6–8 PM | Patrick Heath Public Library
Celebrate the library’s Unidos Somos Más exhibit during a special opening reception.
Guests can meet members of the Austin Friends of Folk Art, connect with others interested in the exhibit, and enjoy food from Boerne’s own Chilitos. The reception is open to everyone, and no RSVP is required.
15. Pokémon Power Hour with Heroes Hideout at the Library
September 17 | 4:15 PM | Patrick Heath Public Library Hub
Calling Boerne’s Pokémon fans. Teens can learn how to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game with experienced players from Heroes Hideout.
New players can learn the basics while those already building their dream decks can sharpen their skills, trade tips, and meet other local players.
16. Adult Night Hike
September 18 | Cibolo Nature Center
Leave the flashlight behind and experience the trails after dark during the Cibolo’s Adult Night Hike.
These sunset hikes focus on nocturnal wildlife and venture onto longer and less familiar trails, giving participants a chance to experience the preserve in a completely different setting. The program is designed for mature teenagers and adults.

17. Tapatio Springs x Hill Country Mahjong Retreat

Mahjong gets the full Hill Country getaway treatment during this three-day retreat at Tapatio Springs.
The weekend brings Mahjong enthusiasts together for organized play, learning opportunities, friendly competition, community, and plenty of time to enjoy the resort setting.

Hill Country Animal League’s quarterly Thrifty Happy Hour includes food, drinks, raffles, door prizes, and exclusive shopping deals. Proceeds support HCAL’s affordable spay and neuter services and its work to prevent animal neglect and abuse.
20. Music in the Cave: Fall Equinox
September 19 | 7–9 PM | Cave Without A Name
Head underground for an evening of music inside the Queen’s Throne Room at Cave Without A Name.
Rudi & the Rudiments will perform as part of the cave’s concert series, where natural acoustics and ancient formations make the venue every bit as memorable as the music.
Advance tickets are $35, with tickets at the door priced at $40 if available.
21. Family Birding Day
September 26 | 9–11 AM | Cibolo Nature Center
Grab the kids and spend the morning learning about some of the feathered neighbors that call the Hill Country home.
Family Birding Day covers binocular basics, identifying common local birds, tips for spotting more birds on the trail and at home, and simple ways families can help protect them. Binoculars will be available to borrow, or families can bring their own.

22. Family Kite Day
September 26 | 9 AM–12 PM | Boerne City Lake
Look to the skies at Boerne City Lake for a morning of high-flying family fun.
Bring your own kite and help fill the lakefront with a colorful display, or decorate one of the kites provided at the event while supplies last. Families can drop by throughout the morning and spend some time flying together by the lake.
23. Black Rifle Block Party
September 26 | 5–9 PM | East San Antonio Avenue
Black Rifle Coffee Company and Mainz Meat Market are shutting down the street for a full-on Boerne block party.
Expect live music, classic cars, cold drinks, Steak Night from Mainz Meat Market, and food from Tre Pizzeria and VIP Tacos. It’s a good excuse to spend an evening downtown with a plate in one hand and something cold in the other.
24. Moondance Outdoor Concert Series
September 26 | 7–9 PM | Cibolo Nature Center
One of the Cibolo’s longest-running traditions returns under the oaks and stars.
The Moondance Outdoor Concert Series has been bringing the community together since 2000 for evenings of live music, local vendors, and time outdoors at the Nature Center.
Tickets are $15.
25. Tiles for Transformation Mahjong Tournament
September 27 | 1 PM | Ironwood Events at Von Erich Ranch
Put those Mahjong skills to work for a good cause during the Tiles for Transformation Mahjong Tournament benefiting Transformation House.
Check-in and the social hour begin at 1 PM, followed by tournament play at 2 PM. The event features three 55-minute rounds of friendly competition and community.
