When Bertus and Adria Stiehler arrived in Boerne in 2021, they weren’t sure what to expect. After years of success teaching and competing across the country, the state of California shut down their business during the Pandemic, so they escaped to Texas to rebuild. But it didn’t take long for them to find their rhythm again here in the Hill Country.
Their studio, Ministry of Dance, quickly became one of Boerne’s most popular places for adults to learn everything from ballroom to country dancing. The classes were upbeat, welcoming, and focused on building confidence as much as technique. I know, because my wife and I took a salsa class their for our anniversary soon after it opened.
Now, just a few years later, the Stiehlers are expanding again to nurture the next generation of dancers.
A New Home for Young Dancers
Last month, Ministry of Dance opened a dedicated youth studio in the space formerly home to Boerne Post Haus at 610 N Main Street. The new location focuses exclusively on children’s and teen classes, offering instruction for ages 3 through 18 in styles like ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, pom, acro/tumbling, lyrical, and contemporary.
“It’s exciting to see how much Boerne’s dance community has grown,” said Bertus. “We started with ballroom, but now it’s everything, and we have more lessons for kids than ever before.”
The new youth studio complements the original adult program located right next door. Together, they serve dancers of all ages, from first-timers to competitive performers. Ministry of Dance also has two competition teams, Seraphim and Cherubim, that perform locally and regionally throughout the year.
From South Africa to the Hill Country
Bertus Stiehler’s path to Boerne started far from Texas. Originally from South Africa, he is a World Showdance Champion with more than 20 years of experience performing, choreographing, and teaching across the globe. His wife, Adria, is an award-winning dancer and active competitor who has earned titles in country dance circuits across multiple states.
After years of building a following in California, the couple relocated to Boerne in 2021 and reopened their studio with a simple goal: make dance accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
