It’s finally happening, Boerne—Buc-ee’s is on the way! Or at least, there’s movement.
After nearly a decade of delays, crews have officially started work at the future home of Buc-ee’s in Boerne at Interstate 10 and U.S. 87. We first noticed activity at the site yesterday when a local reader, Rick Munoz, tipped us off that work was underway.
This morning, we stopped by and saw bulldozers at work, surveyors on-site, and trucks parked nearby—a sign that progress is finally being made.
City officials have now confirmed that preliminary grading at the site is set to begin, and the first step is developing the road infrastructure needed for the massive travel center. While this isn’t the official start of building the store itself, it means the gears are finally turning after what has felt like an eternal waiting game.
A Look Back at the Buc-ee’s Boerne Timeline
Buc-ee’s first announced plans for a $38 million, 53,471-square-foot store in Boerne way back in 2016. The project has been met with several delays over the years, largely due to ongoing I-10 construction near the site.
Last summer, the Boerne City Council approved $420,000 for the construction of Buc-ee’s Way, the road that will lead to the store. The city also allocated up to $65,000 to reroute existing electrical and natural gas lines needed for the project.
Although some residents have raised concerns about increased traffic and competition with local businesses, others have continued to support Buc-ee’s, viewing it as a major win for the local economy—especially given the chain’s reputation for attracting travelers from all over Texas.
What’s Next for Buc-ee’s Boerne?
The work happening right now is focused on grading and public infrastructure improvements, meaning no structures will go up just yet. However, this marks the first real progress in years, and it suggests that full-scale construction could begin in the near future.
While there’s still no official timeline for when Boerne’s Buc-ee’s will open its doors, this is the most movement we’ve seen in a long time. If things continue at this pace, we could finally see shovels hitting the ground on the main structure sooner rather than later.
Boerne’s Buc-ee’s: Worth the Wait?
With Buc-ee’s rapidly expanding across Texas and beyond, some are excited to see our own long-promised location finally moving forward. Meanwhile, others are not happy at all and feel as if Buc-ee’s will ruin our small town feel.
Over the past few years, the company has opened massive new travel centers, including the record-breaking 75,000-square-foot store in Luling and a new location in San Marcos.
Will Boerne’s Buc-ee’s live up to the hype after all these years? Only time will tell—but one thing’s for sure: the countdown is officially back on.
