Update: Work has begun, as siding and windows are being removed, among other things. A TDLR filing was made showing that interior renovations and an addition to the existing structure are set to begin in June, with the project wrapping up December of this year.
Big changes are coming to Boerne’s wine scene! The Old Luckenbach House at 265 N Main Street is being transformed into Hill & Bach Cellars, a brand-new winery expected to open in December 2025.
With plans for beautiful garden seating, an outdoor hangout space, and a focus on high-quality wines, Hill & Bach Cellars is shaping up to be an exciting new destination for both locals and visitors.
A Historic Location with a New Purpose
The Old Luckenbach House has stood in Boerne for well over a century, originally built by Rudolph Carstanjen before being purchased by Jacob Luckenbach in 1883. The house has changed hands multiple times over the years, serving as a residence, a cosmetic studio, and a dress shop. Its unique structure—starting as a log cabin with rooms added at higher levels—still showcases original cedar beams in the ceiling.
Now, this historic building is getting a new life as a winery, blending Boerne’s rich past with its growing reputation in the Texas Hill Country wine industry.
A Sneak Peek at the Plans
We’ve been tracking this project since October 2024, when owner Richard Lee filed for a variance to allow alcohol sales within 300 feet of a school—a requirement that successfully passed. Since then, updates on the project have been scarce, but we caught up with Lee on-site on February 24, and he confirmed that things are moving forward.
With Fredericksburg widely known as Texas’ wine capital, Boerne continues to carve out its own niche in the industry. Hill & Bach Cellars will add another unique winery experience to the Hill Country Mile, joining an already thriving local wine scene.
